I have a new editor! (Meet Katie)

Running a blog and a business are both full-time endeavors, and I don’t want the quality on either one to go down.
That’s why I’m really excited about bringing on Katie Clapp to join me as editor of this site. She’ll be helping me assemble the articles, arrange the interviews, and basically make everything run smoothly.
If you want to get in touch to arrange a story, you may contact her by email: editor[at]hotelmarketingstrategies[]com

Josiah, my friend Vinay and I were talking about employing staff recently and how this impacts the quality and style of a small business.
Unlike big corporations, small entrepreneur led businesses are very much influenced by the style of the entrepreneur himself – much like my Mitaroy Goa Hotel or Vinay’s Royal Mysore Walks.
If either of us were to employ a Manager, what kind of difference in style and content would this entail ?
Most of our clients are so used to dealing with us and infact interact with us only because of our individual personalities – people still buy people !
So it will be interesting to see how the style of Hotel Marketing Strategies changes with Katie on board.
Will you be moving on to greener pastures Josiah ?
Cheers
Mihir
Definitely NOT moving on! I love this site, and have no plans of leaving.
You raise a point about the “personality” of a business changing as it grows. But I feel that hiring a manager or editor does not limit this….if anything, it frees the founder to focus on their passion. So in my case, instead of spending hours coordinating interviews or fact checking, I can focus on the big ideas and trends.
Katie has a strong track record of success working with me on other projects, and I know she’ll do a great job in this role. Together, we plan to create even more useful content for everyone.
Hi Mihir, it’s a pleasure to finally correspond with you — I’ve been following your site and insights on Hotel Marketing Strategies for some time now, and am always impressed by your grounded and people-first approach to business.
Happily, I’m not here to manage or replace Josiah’s voice. I’m aiming to help J structure his time so that he can personally correspond with and help as many people as possible, and there’s no doubt in my mind that the extra couple of hours a day will lead to innovative new developments for his readers (when he should be getting an extra couple hours of sleep
).
Gradigio has always been a collaboration of creative minds; I’m thrilled to have joined a team that encourages each individual’s free-flow of ideas and still manages to keep a strong focus. It can’t be an easy thing to do, but Josiah’s got a knack for it, wouldn’t you say?
And greener pastures? We hope so — and for J, that means making time for personal relationships, interviews and meaningful posts.
Looking forward to more of your insights, Mihir; again, so fun to finally write you.
Katie
Outsourcing some part of your work is a great way to add time for doing the things you are good at.
Have to become better in doing so myself. I guess we all tend to be a little ‘do it all by ourselves’.
Virtual assistant is a growing online industry. I guess we need to find some Virtual Assistant that focus on the Hotel Industry.
Looking forward to see your contributions Katie.
Wish you all the best and good luck.
Cheers.. Are
Hi Katie
Thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation!
I’m sorry if I sounded like an old fart who was yearning for the good ol days
I do know of one example where I stopped following a brand simply because my friend stopped working there. Even with Marketing magazine, I took quite a while to adjust to the new style of Helen Edwards after Mark Ritson stopped writing on Branding.
But I am sure that you will do a great job from where Josiah left off.
I am looking forward to your insights and views in the coming days on Hotel Marketing Strategies. I am sure they will be just as valuable as Josiah’s.
By the way, are you on Twitter ?
Cheers
Mihir
