Why you should use email with your blog [graph]

Adding an email delivery option to your blog could significantly increase your number of regular readers.

This chart shows my daily blog traffic over the past few weeks. Traffic spikes each Monday, when my weekly email summary goes out:

It doesn’t have to be time consuming. I use MailChimp to automatically package my posts in a one-email-per week format. (I tried Feedburner, but felt daily updates would be too overwhelming…)

    As a matter of interest, what did your traffic profile look like before you started sending out weekly digests of your site via email? Reason I ask is that most sites have an weekly up/down nature to them. Are you using Google Analytics campaign tracking to know that it is your email driving that spike on the Monday or could it just be that everyone is back at work and doing the rounds of their favourite sites?

    Hmmmm maybe Alistair is right and Monday Morning blues is one of the reasons people read your blog to find something interesting. Josiah, is this why you picked Mondays ?

    Me, I love this blog but I’m so caught up in work through the week that I need a gentle reminder that there’s something new for me to read on the blog. So personally, your email strategy works wonders.

    Could you also tell us how you package your blog posts with MailChimp ???

    @Alister – Good thought, but yes, analytics is showing this traffic comes from email
